Director's Note

We are all living through a shared collective experience, yet everyone’s experience is not equal in terms of effect and shared sacrifice. There are so many days I wrestle and question myself, my purpose and my future as I try and find a mental balance that keeps me focused and grateful.

These shared sacrifices have hit us all and in ways that we never imagined: not being able to see loved ones, work as we did before, socializing with friends, economic uncertainty & the compounding worry about what will life look like when this is all over. But in visiting with our performers, friends and fans, I have found that in spite of all of this, so many have found ways to grow & thrive and find dynamic ways to express themselves and reconnect with others. More so, many have sought new ways to reconnect with themselves as we now have more time and need for self-reflection.

Speaking for myself, before the lockdown I often felt my life was spinning out of control as responsibility, desire, and need kept me on a nonstop loop of obligation. Now, I welcome self-reflection (while not always easy) and reconnection — mentally, physically, and sexually.

During the early days of our lockdown and while trying to understand what was happening, sex and “my sexual self” was the last thing I wanted to think about. Fear, upset, worry, and guilt were the overwhelming emotions that fueled my mind. I found that this fear created more upset, stress, and negativity, while the better parts of me—my creativity, joy, and peace—faded. However, as the “New Normal” kicked in, I realized, like many others, that now, more than ever, our sexual health was not to be ignored as nothing makes one feel more alive, empowered, and in control than the act of a consensual sexual experience. For many that act will be self-love, and it is a key to helping find a mental and physical balance, especially now that we have the time to do it.

And from this realization, RJ and I, along with our performers began to discuss and conceive this limited series {LOCK}DOWN BUT NOT OUT to explore and showcase how some of our guys are dealing with and experiencing their lockdown. The series delves into how they are managing this time, overcoming their upsets & finding ways to reconnect to their sexual self, while preparing for and growing stronger for the tomorrow that is ahead.
